I graduated with honors in interdisciplinary studies (English Literature, with a writing emphasis and Psychology) from Dominican University in San Rafael, California in 1994. I obtained my Masters in psychology from the San Francisco School of Psychology in 1997. Then I earned my Doctor of Psychology degree from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California in 2003. I completed my pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at WestCoast Children’s Clinic. I have also worked in child, adolescent, and family community mental health, juvenile justice settings, and in residential treatment for adolescents.
Currently, I am the Chief of Clinical Programs at WestCoast Children’s Clinic in Oakland, California. Previously, I was core faculty in the graduate counseling psychology program at Holy Names University, also in Oakland. I have also served on the board of the Alameda County Psychological Association as President and as Professional Affairs (ethics) Chair.
My professional interests include psychological trauma, child and family psychology, severe emotional illness in children and teens, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety and depressive disorders, and the role of psychological care in contemporary healthcare and improving equity in and access to psychological services.
How I work depends upon the circumstances which bring you to a psychotherapist as different problems and situations necessitate different approaches. Every therapy must be unique even if there are preferred methods and practices for anxiety, depression, and other problems and challenges. Your reasons for seeking therapy or counseling for yourself or your child or family member may be unclear other than feeling or recognizing another’s distress, or suffering, or the sense or fear that things are not working. My practice ranges from single consultation meetings, or brief, focused treatment to longer-term therapy for complex and long-standing conditions.
